Electrical Current Shocks Six Girls In Outdoor Pool, Killing 13-Year-Old

Associated Press

An electrical current surged through an apartment complex’s swimming pool, killing a 13-year-old and injuring five other children.

Authorities said the outdoor pool has underwater light fixtures, but they did not know if they caused the current. A city building inspector was called to examine the pool.

Six girls, ages 8 to 13, were playing in the pool at the time of the accident Friday afternoon.

Three of the girls were in the shallow end of the pool and managed to get out of the water without help, police Sgt. Cory Roay said. But the three older girls, including the one who died, were in deep water and had to be helped out of the pool by adults.

Yasmin Palesso was pronounced dead at a hospital. The other girls were released after treatment.
