Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Last week, in the middle of making chicken salad, I discovered my celery had gone bad. Without time for a run to the grocery store, I spotted some store-bought slaw in the fridge and dumped it in.

The results were excellent, with the same fresh, crunchy taste as celery. Plain, shredded cabbage could substitute as well. - Marilyn Lanpher, Springfield, Mo.

Dear Heloise: My pet peeve is stores that put the price stickers over the dye-lot numbers on knitting yarn. It is a must to have matching dye-lot numbers to complete a project, and getting the stickers off almost always disturbs the print underneath. - J.L.

This a good Sound Off! This is why it is good that some of the large yarn companies now make yarn with no dye lot. Sure makes things a lot easier. - Heloise
