Down 21-0, Penguins Take Off Ewu’s Next Opponent: Youngstown State
Mark Griffith kicked a 28-yard field goal to break a fourth-quarter tie and eighth-ranked Youngstown State held on to win 37-34, handing No. 1 Villanova its first loss of the season Saturday in the NCAA Division I-AA quarterfinals.
Youngstown trailed 21-0 in the second quarter.
Still trailing 28-14, Youngstown State (11-2) rallied to tie the game with two TDs in an 18-second span of the third quarter.
Demetrius Harris scored on a 5-yard run as the Penguins closed within 28-21. And on the next possession for Villanova (12-1), Jauron Dailey ran back a fumble 9 yards to tie the game at 28 with 2:55 left in the third quarter.
Jake Andreadis scored on a 20-yard run for the 37-28 lead.
