Hullah Fired For Reign’s Poor Start

Compiled From Wire Services

The American Basketball League fired Jacquie Hullah as Seattle Reign coach and announced appointment of an official from the Philadelphia Rage as interim coach.

Tammy Holder, 39, will take over today, league chief executive officer Gary Cavalli said. She has been serving as director of basketball operations for the Philadelphia club.

Holder will have four days to prepare for the Reign’s Saturday game against the Portland Power.

Hullah was fired over Seattle’s 23-38 record since the league began last year. Seattle general manager Jim Weyermann said the decision followed “an exhaustive and thorough evaluation of all the variables.”

The search for a permanent Seattle coach will begin when this season ends, Cavalli said.

An ABL official has five years to decide whether he wants to buy the Portland Power’s operating rights.

The ABL gave the option to Rodger Rickard, senior vice president in charge of financing, marketing and ticket sales. He is a former San Francisco Bay area real estate magnate.

No one can bid for rights to the team during the five-year window.
