Duffy Waldorf’s short par putt on the 18th hole propelled him and teammate Tom Lehman, the defending champions, to victory in the first round of the Diners Club Matches.

Waldorf’s par defeated John Cook and Tommy Tolles 1-up.

Brad Faxon and Billy Andrade defeated British Open champion Justin Leonard and Mike Hulbert 1-up.

Steve Elkington’s par at the 18th hole gave him and partner Jeff Maggert a 1-up victory over John Daly and Tim Herron.

The LPGA’s Diners Club defending champions, Juli Inkster and Dottie Pepper, defeated Betsy King and Chris Johnson 6 and 4.

Annika Sorenstam’s 20-foot birdie putt at the 18th led to a 1-up victory with Michelle McGann over Brandie Burton and Colleen Walker.

Nancy Lopez and Laura Davies defeated Tammie Green and Donna Andrews 4 and 3.

Walter Morgan’s 10-foot birdie putt on the 18th gave him and teammate Bob Eastwood a 1-up victory over defending champions Jim Colbert and Bob Murphy in the Senior Tour division.
