Analysis
The 49ers have clinched home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs and plan to give selected players time off today. Steve Young will probably start, but don’t be surprised to see Jim Druckenmiller and Jeff Brohm. Others whose time probably will be limited are Bryant Young, Rod Woodson and Marquez Pope. In the interest of preserving players’ health, the 49ers traditionally have lost these types of games that have no bearing on the playoffs. Seattle, meanwhile, is biting and clawing for victories, trying to reach 8-8. On the basis of necessity, Seattle wins this one. Who knows if it will be enough to save coach Dennis Erickson’s job.
