Cougs Win At Buzzer
Jennifer Kerns’ finger-roll layin as time expired gave Washington State University a 61-59 victory over Mississippi State Sunday in the final round of the fourth annual Kona Women’s Classic.
WSU’s victory handed the tournament championship to University of Oregon. Oregon, WSU and Mississippi State each finished with 2-1 records in the three-day event. Oregon won a tiebreaker on the basis of its 23-point victory over Washington State.
Alke Dietel and Yvonne Kunze gave WSU two of the five berths on the all-tournament team.
However, Joanna Smith led the Cougars Sunday, scoring 18 points. Smith took 10 shots, all of them 3-pointers, and made six. She also contributed five assists.
