Obituaries

Joseph Huddle Cheney

Service for Joseph A. Huddle, 91, will be at 10 a.m. today at Cheney Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Harrington (Wash.) Cemetery.

Born in Harrington, Mr. Huddle died Thursday.

He graduated in 1925 from Harrington High School and then moved to Okanogan, Wash.

He worked as a barber and also was an Associated Oil distributor.

Mr. Huddle farmed in the Harrington area for eight years and then moved to Washtucna, Wash., where he lived and farmed for 32 years.

He retired and moved to Cheney in 1982.

Mr. Huddle was a member of the Washington Association of Wheat Growers, the Washtucna Lions Club and the Washtucna Gun Club.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Annette; two sons, Jeff Huddle of Dayton, Wash., and Kevin Huddle of Spokane; three daughters, Elaine Depee of Kalama, Wash., Jolene Karn of Greenacres and Tammy Lawrence of Medical Lake; two brothers, Ray Huddle of Seattle and Ralph Huddle of Harrington ; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Homer ‘Griff’ Griffith Spokane

Funeral Mass for Homer E. “Griff” Griffith, 75, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Griffith, who was born in Indianola, Iowa, died Friday.

He served in the Army during World War II and then worked for the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries as an investigator for 17 years.

He had been a Spokane resident since 1959 and was a member of St. Charles parish.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Margaret; three sons, Thomas Smith of Spokane, Thomas Griffith of Tacoma and Geoffrey Griffith of Charlotte, N.C.; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church.

Norine Avey Spokane

Service for Norine G. Avey, 79, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.

Entombment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Avey, who was born in Pine City, Wash., died Wednesday.

She moved to Spokane and graduated in 1937 from Lewis and Clark High School.

Mrs. Avey and her husband, Robert, opened the Little Spokane Nursing Home in 1947.

In 1952 they opened the Rivercrest Nursing Home and in 1972 built and operated Southcrest Convalescent Center and Crestview Manor.

Mrs. Avey retired in 1992.

She was a member of the American College of Nursing Home Administration, Eiram Court No. 62 of Ladies Oriental Shrine, Spokane Valley Elks Lodge and the Eagles Lodge No. 2 Ladies Auxiliary.

She was at one time appointed by the governor of Washington state to serve on a 10-person state advisory board for nursing homes.

Her husband died in 1992.

She is survived by a son, Robert Avey of Spokane; a sister, Margaret Bruce of Otis Orchards; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

William Kennedy Spokane

Memorial Mass for William F. Kennedy, 77, was Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church.

Mr. Kennedy, who was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., died Dec. 10.

He retired from the Navy after 30 years.

After his retirement, he became a security officer for Great Western Savings in California.

In 1978 he moved to Spokane.

His wife, Helen, died last June.

Mr. Kennedy is survived by a brother, Terrence Kennedy of Phoenix.

Constance Weathers Spangle

No service will be held for Constance L. Weathers, a former longtime Orofino, Idaho, resident, at her request. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Weathers, 89, died Wednesday.

She was born in Salem, Ore.

Mrs. Weathers moved to Spangle from Orofino 14 years ago.

She was homemaker and a was member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Fairfield.

Her husband of 60 years, Herman Cobb, died in 1988.

She is survived by three daughters, Delores Yates of Milton Freewater, Ore., Margie Buell of Spangle and Carol Paulson of Paradise, Calif.; a son, Bob Cobb of Spokane; five grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Dolores Luedtke Spokane

Private service will be held for Dolores J. Luedtke, 65. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Luedtke, a 51 year Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

She was born in Vancouver, British Columbia and was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Robin Brown of Chattaroy and Beverly Clark of Everett; two sons, Tim Cook of DeSmet, Idaho, and Don Cook of Spokane; a sister, Beverly Kambeitz of Spokane; a brother, Ken Kambeitz of Middletown, Calif.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

William Bonnell Spokane

No service will be held for William B. Bonnell. The Cremation Society of Washington was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Bonnell, 77, died Dec. 12.

He was born in Livingston, Mont., and served in the Air Force during World War II.

Mr. Bonnell was the manager of Clipper Transport in Spokane before his retirement.

Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Kleeb of Lewiston.

Elizabeth (Mattausch) Mayther Spokane

No service will be held for Elizabeth “Betty” (Mattausch) Mayther, 83, at her request. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Mayther, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.

She worked as a secretary to the manager of General Mills in Spokane for 17 years.

Mrs. Mayther then worked for the Federal Land Bank from 1964 until her retirement in 1978 as the secretary to the vice president.

Her husband, Ray, died in 1996.

There are no surviving family members.

Michael Abbott Spokane

No service will be held for Michael J. Abbott. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Abbott, 46, died Tuesday.

He was born in San Diego and worked as a carpet installer.

Mr. Abbott moved to Spokane 10 years ago.

Survivors include a son, Christopher Abbott; his mother, Margaret Johnson; and a sister, Susie Webb of Rosalia, Wash.

Georgia ‘Jo’ Brinton Spokane

No service will be held for Georgia M. “Jo” Brinton, 77, at her request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Brinton, a 54-year Spokane resident, died Thursday.

She was born in Wichita, Kan., and worked as a professional model.

Mrs. Brinton was a member of the Manito Country Club and Spokane Club.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert; a son, Devon Brinton of Spokane; two sisters, Florence Foraker of Oklahoma City and Ruby Bush of Wichita; and a granddaughter.
