Dollar Gains Ground On Yen

The dollar rose against the Japanese yen Tuesday on concern about Japan’s weak economy and a growing belief that Japan’s central bank will not enter the open market to support its currency.

The U.S. currency finished flat against the German mark. The mark staged a late rally against the yen that also pushed the German currency higher against the dollar.

The dollar also climbed to a nearly two-week high against the British pound after Bank of England Governor Eddie George said the country’s economic growth will slow during the next year.
