Fittipaldi Not Done Yet

Emerson Fittipaldi, 50, squelching speculation that he would announce his retirement, said he hopes to race again after recuperating from a serious injury.

“I want to keep the doors open,” he said during a news conference at which he had been expected to announce his retirement. “It’s not the time to make a decision. I’d like to continue with competition.”

Mark Blundell was in stable condition at a Miami hospital after crashing his Reynard-Mercedes at nearly 200 mph at the Metro-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex during practice runs at IndyCar spring training.

Michael Himes, injured in a one-car accident Friday during the Daytona (Fla.) USA 2-hour IMSA Endurance Championship, died at a hospital Friday night.
