Kings Hurting For Real Scorers

From Wire Reports

Around the NHL

They still have 28 games left in the regular season, but it’s already become clear what Los Angeles Kings general manager Sam McMaster has to do in the off-season:

Find bona fide goal-scorers.

Because as they flounder through another failed season, that’s become their most glaring weakness.

The goaltending of Stephane Fiset and Byron Dafoe has been adequate and they actually have a promising group of young defensemen.

But teams that don’t put the puck in the net don’t win very often, as the Kings are finding out.

They have been shut out eight times this season - one shy of the club record - and are averaging just 2.7 goals per game.

Only San Jose, Calgary and Chicago in the Western Conference score less.

Wings waive Errey

The Detroit Red Wings waived veteran left wing Bob Errey to make room for the return of center Sergei Fedorov.

Errey, in his 14th season, joined Detroit in a February 1995 trade with the San Jose Sharks. He has seen limited playing time this year because of the emergence of rookie left wing Tomas Holstrom. Errey, 32, has one goal and two assists in 36 games. Holstrom has four goals and three assists in 26 games.

Panthers add another tie

Johan Garpenlov scored twice in a 3:40 span early in the third period and the Florida Panthers rallied for a 2-2 tie with the New Jersey Devils on Friday night.

The tie was the third straight for the Panthers and their leagueleading 13th of the season. Florida has played an NHL-high 17 overtimes this season (2-2-13).
