Gu Engineering Students Earn Academic Scholarships
Heather Carrol and Josh Thomson, civil engineering students at Gonzaga University, each received a $700 scholarship from Carol Sales Co./Douglas P. Daniels for their academic performance.
Carroll is a senior, and Thomson, a junior.
Marine Lance Cpl. Benjamin Jacks received a Letter of Appreciation for superior performance while assigned with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Ariz.
He is a 1995 graduate of Mead High School and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Jacks, Mead, and Donna Jacks, Deer Park.
Jared Wyrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wyrick, Spokane, was named to the Dean’s List at the University of Montana for the fall quarter.
Students must earn at least a 3.5 grade-point-average in at least nine credits to be eligible for the list.
Six Pullman students were winners in the art contest to honor the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.: In kindergarten to second grade: first place, Danny Van Orden; second place, Jon Crislip; both from Sunnyside Elementary.
Third to fifth grades: first place, Roxanne Tucker; second place, Doug Dickson; both from Franklin Elementary.
Sixth to ninth grade: first place, Ryan Kapnowski; second place, Christy Tracy; both from Lincoln Middle School.
First-place finishers received a pizza party for six at Godfather’s Pizza; second-place winners received $15.
Clay Wilken, a sophomore at Sprague High School, is a nominee for the national Points of Light Foundation 1997 President’s Service Award by the Jonas Babcock Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Wilken was nominated for his volunteer community service, contributing nearly 500 hours in the past 15 months. He has been active in the Congressional Award Club, 4-H, Camp Fire Teens in Action, and the Elderly Chore Service Program.
Erica Gould’s poem, “Earth’s Lament,” will be published in Frost at Midnight, a book of poetry compiled by The National Library of Poetry.
Six employees at Cenex Transportation, Spokane terminal, received 1996 Safety Awards for safe driving:
Merrol Ferderor, 19 years of safe driving; Art Schnebly, seven years; Jim Loomis and Jeff Sitton, four years; Brian Hanson two years; and John Malone, one year of safe driving.
Laura Budinsky, Veradale, was named to the Dean’s List at Carroll College in Helena. Students must maintain a grade-point-average of at least 3.5, with a minimum of 12 credit hours. Budinsky earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
