Moscow Boys Dig Down To Wrap Up Iml Pennant

They were pushed to the end Saturday, but Moscow held tough and clinched the Intermountain League boys basketball title.

Adam Miller hit five 3-pointers and scored 21 to lead the visiting Bears (13-3, 9-0) to a 37-35 win over second-place Kellogg (11-7, 5-3). Kellogg had held out slim hopes of beating Moscow and winning its final two to tie for the league crown.

Moscow pulled six points ahead in the third quarter and survived Kellogg’s last-second heave from near midcourt.

Moscow’s Drew Owen had eight rebounds. Heath Marek and Seth Rice had seven rebounds apiece for the host Wildcats.

The regular season ends Saturday.

Chad Mettler made 6 of 9 field goals and added four steals as the Lumberjacks (9-9) built a 20-point lead and held off the visiting Miners (2-15).

Wallace closed within four points in the fourth quarter, but Ty Konkright’s two free throws with 12 seconds left clinched the win. Chris Weinmann of SM had 10 rebounds.

Glen Lambert scored 21 and hit four of his team’s 14 3-pointers as the league-leading Knights (15-1, 6-0) beat the visiting Warriors (5-11, 0-7) at Plummer.

Lakeside owns a half-game lead on Mullan (6-1) with two league games left for the Knights, one for Mullan. The teams meet at Plummer on Thursday, one night before the regular season ends.

Brendon Nelson had 15 rebounds and Buck Allen seven assists for Lakeside.
