Panthers Sign Barrow

Compiled From Wire Services

The Carolina Panthers’ linebacking corps, which produced three Pro Bowl players last season, got younger and faster when the NFC West champions signed Micheal Barrow.

The Panthers landed Barrow, who played for Houston last season, with a five-year deal worth nearly $19 million. The package includes a signing bonus of $5.5 million.

Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Daryl Gardener was shot in the jaw while driving on a freeway in Dallas early Thursday, apparently by someone who followed him from a nightclub.

Gardener had two bullet fragments removed from the base of his tongue during surgery at Presbyterian Hospital, Dolphins trainer Kevin O’Neill said. He was listed in satisfactory condition.

Next year’s Super Bowl will stay in San Diego and so will the Chargers, the result of a judge’s ruling that a stadium expansion project can continue.
