‘Dante’s Peak’ Will Premiere Early

From Staff And Wire Reports

Universal Studio’s “Dante’s Peak” will apparently erupt on the screens a month earlier than expected, while local residents prepare a champagne gala for opening night.

The $100 million movie, which was filmed around the Silver Valley last summer, will premiere Feb. 7. Television commercials have already appeared, promoting the action-thriller starring Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton.

The movie centers on the fictional Washington town of Dante’s Peak, which rests at the base of a long-dormant volcano. New rumblings in the mountain sends volcanologist Brosnan to the city to investigate.

Although no official word has arrived from Universal whether Wallace will receive an advance copy of the film, former mayor Debbie Mikesell said city officials still plan a party for opening night. Hundreds of residents played extras.

Universal had indicated an attempt would be made to send Wallace a copy of the movie to coincide with the national release.
