Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: When I receive roses, I always hang them to dry when they are about to die. Then I display them in a vase to enjoy for months. How do I clean dust off of them? They are so fragile that it’s difficult to wipe them down.- J.M. Robinson, Anchorage, Alaska

A leading manufacturer of dried flowers suggests that if you dry your own flowers you can treat them with a sealant (after they are dry). This will help protect them from getting filled with dust. Dust may still accumulate on the surface, but it won’t get down into the flower. Sealant can usually be found at a craft or hobby shop. To clean dusty flowers, use the sort of canned compressed air office supply stores sell. It’s used to clean computer keyboards. You may want to take the flowers outside so dust doesn’t fly out all over your house. Good luck. - Heloise
