Brothers Survive Crash Into River

From Staff And Wire Reports

A man drove his car into the Spokane River off Trent Avenue early Sunday morning, taking his brother underwater with him, police said.

Neither man was injured.

Afterward, they told officers they kicked out a window and swam to shore near the river’s west bank.

The sunken car, a 1982 Cadillac El Dorado, has not been located.

Officers said the car was traveling about 80 mph on Trent at 2:30 a.m. when the driver, 35-year-old Robert Faulkner, hit the brakes. After leaving 258 feet of skid marks, the car became airborne, police said.

Faulkner, 1638 E. Rockwell, was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.

The accident occurred close to where a 27-year-old man’s car crashed into the river in late November. Erick Forsberg’s body was found Dec. 8, trapped inside the car.
