The University of Connecticut said it was investigating its men’s basketball program for a possible violation of NCAA rules. There was no indication how severe the possible violation was, what it involved or what the consequences might be.

The Big Ten will play the Big East for the second time in three years in the traditional opener to the college football season when Wisconsin faces Syracuse at Giants Stadium on Aug. 24 in Kickoff Classic XV.
