Super Bowl needs a villain
What kind of Super Bowl will this be? That is what I am asking myself as I sit here watching these championship games. Boy, something is missing. Then it hit me, these teams are too well liked. Nobody hates New England or Green Bay. Especially the way they hate Dallas or Buffalo.
With all the talk about good-image teams and how in sport nowadays there is too much bad going on, then you get this “Happy Bowl.”
Two teams nobody hates. Where are the villians in this game? The villians to stir up emotion in people? Just like in a good book or a good movie, you need to have a bad element.
After this Super Bowl, people will be saying, “Yeah, that was an all right game, but next year I hope they add a bad guy to spice up the game!” Vince Tarr Spokane
Trim the shorts, please
With the basketball season well under way, I am impressed with the caliber of athletes, both men and women, at the high school level. Part of being a spectator is observing the colorful uniforms and general grooming of a team. This reflects the attitude and overall discipline and is a key to success during the season.
I find it appalling and genuinely disgusting to see the ugly trunks that are worn by the players, apparently modeled after the pro teams. They closely resemble pajamas or sleep wear and that’s not condusive to alertness on the court.
The jerseys and/or tops are well-tailored and do a remarkable job to maintain good grooming. Why shouldn’t there be a nice trunk worn to complement the rest of the uniform? Remember, you are an image for grade-school kids and what is done by the other students is what is important to the ones who follow.
Maybe a good scissors and a proficient designer would turn the tide. Players, work on your athletic department and uniform people and see what can be done. Lloyd R. Oberst Spokane
