Mariners Plan Appearance

Two Seattle Mariners, a coach and the Mariners Moose will be in Spokane Friday to conclude the baseball team’s tour of 15 Northwest cities.

Pitchers Scott Sanders, a former Spokane Indian acquired by the Mariners from San Diego this winter, and Rafael Carmona, and bullpen coach Matt Sinatro will headline the SAFECO Mariners Caravan along with the Moose.

The group will appear at an assembly at Jefferson Elementary School from 10:45-11:15 a.m., then put on a clinic at Rogers High School from 4-5:30 p.m.

There is no charge for the clinic, which is open to youngsters of all ages.

Girls basketball

Bonners Ferry overcame its own ball-handling problems and the scoring of St. George’s Miranda Routh-Corker to shoot down the visiting Dragons 61-48 in non-league girls high school basketball Monday night.

While buttering the ball away the first half, the Badgers (11-1) fell behind 29-23. But after halftime adjustments, they took charge. Amber Paulson led Bonners with 17 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals.

Routh-Corker scored 27 for St. George’s (9-7), 14 the first half.
