Chenoweth May Get New Chairmanship

From Staff And Wire Reports

A potential shakeup in the House Resources Committee could result in Idaho Rep. Helen Chenoweth becoming chairman of a new forestry subcommittee.

Committee Chairman Don Young, R-Alaska, has proposed the restructuring that will be submitted to the House Republican majority in the coming weeks.

Young wants to abolish the Native Americans and Insular Affairs subcommittee, transferring its responsibilities to the full committee and replacing it with the new subcommittee. Most forest issues have been handled by the committee’s National Parks, Forests, and Lands subcommittee, chaired by Utah Republican James Hansen.
