Chewelah Trips Tigers

Area boys

Republic was to have begun its basketball season against Chewelah Dec. 3, but the game was postponed because of Republic’s extended football season.

When the teams finally met Tuesday, Republic was protecting a 16-0 record and No. 3 ranking among Class B teams. Chewelah, of the Northeast A League, showed little respect for the perfect record in building a 17-point lead and toppling the Tigers 58-52.

Drew Landram had five rebounds and four assists, and Josh Parrish 12 rebounds for the Cougars (8-6). Republic’s Jason Baldwin, held scoreless in the first half, hit six 3-pointers in the second half and scored 27.
