Van Gundy Signs Extension
Jeff Van Gundy was given a multiyear contract extension to coach the New York Knicks.
Terms were not disclosed, but it was certainly a vindication for the 35-year-old Van Gundy, an unknown self-described career assistant, who took over as an interim coach from Don Nelson 17 months ago.
Travis Knight, lightly regarded when he was drafted last year by the Los Angeles Lakers, became a very rich starting center when he signed as a free agent with the Boston Celtics.
The acquisition of Knight cost the Celtics more than the seven-year, $22 million contract he reportedly signed. In order to fit him under the salary cap, the Celtics had to renounce the rights to all nine of their free agents, including captain Rick Fox.
The Vancouver Grizzlies will announce today that they have agreed to terms on a contract extension with center Bryant “Big Country” Reeves.
The Cleveland Cavaliers signed guards Derek Anderson and Brevin Knight, their first-round draft picks in the National Basketball Association draft.
Veteran free agent guard Byron Scott has signed a two-year, $2.3 million contract with Panathinaikos AC, a team in Athens, Greece.
