Mcgwire Discusses Trade Talk

Mark McGwire of the Oakland Athletics commented Monday on the swirling trade rumors that have him going to any of a half-dozen teams.

“If it’s going to happen, I hope it happens now. Why wait two weeks - what, they’re going to get another player if they wait 10 more days? If it’s going to happen, do it.”

One of the teams that appears most interested is the Anaheim Angels, and McGwire has previously expressed an interested in them.

McGwire, who has 31 homers and 71 RBIs, would add power from the right side and could transform the Angels from a division contender to a World Series threat.

An Angels lineup featuring Jim Edmonds, McGwire and Tim Salmon in the middle would be “scary,” Angels shortstop Gary DiSarcina said.
