‘Air Force One’ Takes Off Strongly

Bravery aboard the presidential jet triumphed at the box office with “Air Force One” taking in $37.1 million in ticket sales. “Air Force One,” starring Harrison Ford as the chief executive held hostage by Russian terrorists aboard the presidential jet, debuted in first place.

“George of the Jungle” hung on to the No. 2 slot for the second week in a row with $13.2 million. “Men in Black,” which held the No. 1 spot for three weeks, dipped to third place with $12.6 million, Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. said Sunday.

In fourth place was “Contact,” starring Jodie Foster as a scientist who discovers life in outer space. “Contact” raked in $9.5 million in its third week. “Good Burger,” a teen comedy about a hamburger stand and starring Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thompson, opened in fifth place with $7.3 million in ticket sales.
