Salmon Fishing Declared Over

From Staff And Wire Reports

Fish and Game Director Stephen Mealey has shut down the salmon fishing season on the South Fork of the Salmon River after the mortality for wild chinook salmon was reached.

The decision came on Monday after fishermen took 434 hatchery salmon in the first sport season on the river in a generation.

Biologists believe the number of wild salmon is increasing in the South Fork as the spawning season nears.
