Cd’a Opens Legion Season With 9-6 Win
Jim Rupp, Bret Whitenan and Scott Ross each drove in a pair of runs to spark visiting Coeur d’Alene to a 9-6 win over Sandpoint in American Legion action Sunday.
Cd’A jumped out to a 7-0 lead after four innings and never looked back. Jeff Brennan was credited with the win.

Cheney places third
Senior Bryan Miller’s two-run single with one out in the bottom of the seventh gave Cheney a 9-8 victory over Lake Stevens on Sunday in the consolation game at the Class AA boys state high school baseball tournament at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma.
Cheney (17-8) finished third in the state, its highest finish ever. Lake Stevens (16-11) ended up fourth.
Miller had three hits in the game and drove in three runs for Cheney. He was also instrumental in the win on the mound, allowing just two hits in 4-2/3 innings of relief of Matt Caston.
Girls fastpitch tourney delayed
The Class AA/A/B state high school girls’ fastpitch tournament has been delayed until Tuesday because of rain.
Play will begin at 8 a.m. at Tacoma’s South End Recreation Area.
If the weather cooperates on Tuesday, 27 games will be played. If there are rain delays, the tournament may switch to a single-elimination format. , DataTimes
