The Slice Sta Will Probably Pass On Using This Promotion

A South Hill home-for-sale flier noted that the house in question was on an STA route.

How appealing, we thought. The people trying to sell that piece of real estate were promoting the mass transportation alternative in a city wedded to single-occupant car travel.

Good for them.

Then we looked at the flier more closely. It turned out the STA route got mentioned because it meant snowplow drivers made that street a high priority.

Spotting people from Spokane (they’ve got some crazy little women there): “My husband and I fly quite a bit, mostly to the East Coast, and we often see people we know waiting at the Spokane-flight boarding area,” wrote a woman who asked that we not print her name.

She said you can usually tell a gate area is being used for a flight to Spokane because so many women are wearing pastel clothing and sensible haircuts and a lot of the men have ‘70s-style ponytails.

“And for some reason, the meal part of the flight is very important, especially the bread and ice cream,” she wrote. “We love it here but always gets a little laugh out of our fellow Spokanites. Did I mention the carry-on luggage the size of a Volkswagen?”

One reason some people take their dogs for walks at the crack of dawn: They assume no one will see what their pets do and where they do it.

We might consider making an early morning citizen’s arrest, but we know exactly how it would go.

“I’m sure the people who live here will appreciate finding that in their front yard.”

“What are you talking about? I don’t see anything. My dog has never done that in his life.”

Movies that Didn’t Age Well Department: “The Blues Brothers” is on TBS early tonight. We’ll grant you that the Aretha Franklin scene is fun. But if you thought those car crashes were boring back in 1980, well, they aren’t any more fascinating now.

And 1983’s “National Lampoon’s Vacation,” on USA tonight, is almost worth repeat viewings just for the Eugene Levy and Randy Quaid scenes. But that Christie Brinkley stuff gets less watchable every year.

Back, back, back: Did you catch it on ESPN when the sportscaster described a Griffey home run as being hit “halfway to Spokane”?

Of course, a significant segment of the cable audience probably assumed that meant something like 10 miles.

Today’s Slice question: A new religion started in the Inland Northwest would be called what?
