Argentine Lottery A Hit In South America

Compiled From Wire Services

Bettors across South America are calling in numbers and crossing the border to have a crack at Argentina’s $33 million lottery jackpot.

The largest prize in South American history is due to nine consecutive rollovers, local media reported. The winner of Sunday’s jackpot has 12 days to claim the money or it goes back into the pot.

Bettors from as far away as Brazil and Venezuela have been calling friends and relatives with numbers and many people from Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile have crossed the border to try their luck.

Unlike lotteries in which the winner receives a check, the lucky ticket holder will get the prize in cash after 25 percent has been deducted for taxes.
