Carl ‘Jim’ Schneider Hauser Lake, Idaho

Rosary for Carl James “Jim” Schneider, 73, will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Social Hall in DeSmet, Idaho. Burial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeSmet. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Tekoa, Wash. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schneider, who was born in Tekoa, died Wednesday.

He graduated from Plummer (Idaho) High School and served in the Army in 1946 and 1947.

Mr. Schneider worked as a logging contractor in Idaho, Washington and Montana, before retiring in 1996.

He married Violet Blankenship and they later divorced. In 1967 he married Carmelita “Carmie” Hendrichx in Coeur d’Alene and they made their home in Hauser Lake.

Mr. Schneider was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeSmet, American Legion Post No. 143, and the German American Society.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Jami Schneider-Brooks of Post Falls, Roxanne Walker of Newman Lake and Jackie Malinauskas of Coeur d’Alene; two sons, Charlie Schneider of Priest River, Idaho, and James Schneider of Hauser Lake; two stepsons, Garry Benner of Kent, Wash., and Joe Benner of Post Falls; two sisters, Sheri Fisher and Jan Mollring, both of Sacramento, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Idaho.

David Wood Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for David Wood, 47, will be at 2 p.m. today at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Mr. Wood, who was born in Wallace, died Wednesday.

He attended Colorado University for two years before transferring to Boise State University, graduating with a bachelor of science degree. He went on to receive a masters degree in business administration from BSU. He also did post-graduate work in environmental studies.

Mr. Wood had worked as an assistant golf pro at the Crane Creek Country Club and the Hillcrest Country Club in Boise before becoming the head golf professional at the Warm Springs Golf Course in Boise.

He returned to North Idaho in the late 1970s and owned D.K.W. & Co. Construction, and worked in North Idaho and Eastern Washington until last June.

He was a member of the North Idaho Building Contractors, Original Bud Bunch, Kappa Sigma fraternity, Coeur d’Alene Golf Course, Professional Golf Association and the United States Golf Association.

Survivors include a son, David Wood of Boise; his parents, Max and Genevieve Wood of Coeur d’Alene; and a sister, Janis Weishaar of Spokane.

Theodore Brown Spokane

Funeral Mass for Theodore Brown, 80, is planned for 2 p.m. today at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

Mr. Brown, who was born in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, died Saturday.

In 1942 he married Evelyn “Sully” Sullivan in Butte, Mont., and they moved to Spokane in 1945.

He worked for Nordstrom and J.C. Penny in maintenance for 40 years, retiring in 1977.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife; two sons, Ted Brown of Los Gatos, Calif., and Kelly Brown of Spokane; a daughter, Vonnie Lingg of Spokane; two sisters, Katie Burke of Oroville, Calif., and Tina Dosen of Helena; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Alma Stallcop Spokane

Visitation for Alma Stallcop, 91, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon today at the Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stallcop, who was born in Osakis, Minn., died Tuesday.

She received her teaching degree in Minnesota and taught in a one-room school house.

Mrs. Stallcop later moved to Libby, Mont., and then to the Spokane area where she had lived for 52 years.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Newman Lake Grange.

Survivors include four sons, Cecil Stallcop of Wenatchee, Jim Stallcop of California, Milo Stallcop of Lynnwood, Wash., and Eddy Stallcop of Newman Lake; two daughters, Marilyn Theis of St. Peter, Minn., and Candys Hayes of Everett; a sister, Lillian of Minnesota; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Dorothy ‘Betty’ Lafferty Howard Spokane

Visitation for Dorothy “Betty” Lafferty Howard, 82, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Heritage Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with entombment at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Howard, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Wednesday.

An 80-year Spokane resident, she had graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and Kinman Business University.

She had worked as the business manager for Joel Inc. for 30 years.

Mrs. Howard was a member the Friends of the Spokane Library, Indian Canyon 18-Hole Women’s Golf Club and the Central Christian Church.

Two husbands preceded her in death, Robert Lafferty died in 1972 and Frederic Howard died in 1996.

She is survived by a son, Richard Lafferty of Spokane; two stepsons, Frederic Howard and Garnett Howard; a daughter, Patricia Johnson of Norco, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Mary Stuart; a brother, Ralph Pinkerton of Newport Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Helen Carter of Ephrata, Wash., and Phyllis Boyes of Bakersfield, Calif.; two grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Maurine Bliesner Veradale

Service for Maurine J. Bliesner, 78, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Christ Lutheran Church. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Rockford. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bliesner, who was born in Pullman, died Wednesday.

She graduated from Rockford High School, and in 1938 married Erwin Bliesner in Spokane.

She and her husband farmed in Fairfield for 24 years and moved to the Spokane Valley in 1965.

Mrs. Bliesner was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and the Valley Eagles Lodge No. 3433 Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband; five sons, Gene Bliesner of Sunnyside, Wash., Gary and Ronald Bliesner, both of Otis Orchards, Bob Bliesner of Opportunity and Steve Bliesner of Veradale; a daughter, Judy Holliday of Veradale; four brothers, Glen and Wes Brown, both of Rockford, Lauren Brown of Freeman and Wayne Brown of Spokane; two sisters, Bertha Slinkard of Rockford and Joyce Mertes of Moses Lake; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.

Lloyd Hayes Deer Park

Service for Lloyd Steve Hayes, 86, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Church of the Nazarene in Deer Park. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hayes, who was born in Randall, Kan., died Wednesday.

In 1933 he married Ruby Stone in Lincoln, Kan.

He had lived in Deer Park for 42 years and worked for Kaiser Aluminum at its Mead plant, retiring in 1975.

He was a member of Steelworkers of America Local 329 and the Church of the Nazarene in Deer Park.

Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife; two daughters, Dixie McCollough and Virginia Odynski, and a son, Ervin Hayes, all of Deer Park; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Myrtle Howe Cataldo, Idaho

No service will be held for Myrtle May Howe, 72. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Howe, who was born in Amber, Wash., died Thursday.

She moved to North Idaho in 1940 from Washington and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Howe had worked as night watchman at the Whiteman Saw Mill before retiring.

Her husband of 36 years, Harold, died in 1977.

Survivors include a son, Edward Howe of Post Falls; two daughters, Betty Howe of Oregon and Mary Sauer of Smelterville, Idaho; a sister, Mary White of Rose Lake, Idaho; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
