Henry Rodriguez became only the second player to homer off the rim of Montreal’s Olympic Stadium and the Expos beat the Detroit Tigers 10-2 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep and extend their winning streak to nine.
Jeff Juden (7-2) pitched a six-hitter for the second complete game of his career, helping the Expos to their longest winning streak since a nine-gamer in 1993.
With the score 1-all, Rodriguez homered off Brian Moehler (4-6) leading off the fourth. The ball rebounded off the 160-foot-high rim and landed on the field. No estimate of the distance was immediately available.
Ryan McGuire had two RBI doubles for Montreal and is 15-for-34 (.441) with a 10-game hitting streak since he was brought up June 5.

Bobby Jones’ eight-game winning streak came to a sudden halt, his downfall started when Boston pitcher Vaughn Eshelman bunted for a hit in his first big league at-bat.
Boston first baseman Mo Vaughn’s left knee locked up while sliding home in the third inning, and he was forced to leave.

Moises Alou’s bases-loaded grounder rolled through second baseman Pat Kelly’s legs, scoring two runs in the ninth inning to give Florida a split of its doubleheader.
The Yankees rallied to win the first game with a four-run ninth. Paul O’Neill doubled home the tying run and scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly caught by second baseman Kurt Abbott in foul territory.

Oakland’s Ariel Prieto struck out a career-high 11 in 6-1/3 innings and Matt Stairs drove in five runs.
Larry Walker of Colorado went 3 for 4 to raise his major league-leading average to .419 and hit his 20th homer.

J.T. Snow hit a two-run homer against his former team, and William VanLandingham allowed just one run in five innings despite a career-high eight walks.

Terry Steinbach allowed the winning run to score when he failed to catch Pat Listach’s popped up squeeze attempt in the ninth inning.
With the score 2-2 and one out in the ninth, Eddie Guardado (0-2) walked Derek Bell and Mike Trombley walked pinch-hitter Sean Berry and Brad Ausmus, loading the bases.

Frank Castillo (4-8), demoted to the bullpen Friday and then given a second chance, allowed five hits, struck out seven and walked three in 6-1/3 innings as Chicago defeated Milwaukee.
After Jeff Cirillo hit an RBI single in the ninth off Terry Adams, Turk Wendell got the final out for his third save.

Omar Vizquel’s three-run triple in the eighth inning off Todd Stottlemyre broke up a pitching duel and headed Cleveland toward its victory over St. Louis.
Vizquel, the Indians’ leadoff hitter, had been 1-for-10 in the series before his triple.

Pinch-hitter Harold Baines had a three-run homer and Ray Durham followed with a solo shot in a pivotal fifth inning for Chicago.

Alex Gonzalez homered and went 3 for 5, tying a career high with four RBIs, and Pat Hentgen pitched his fifth complete game of the season.
Toronto took control from the outset as the first four batters in the lineup scored in the first inning.

Baltimore completed a three-game sweep of the N.L. champs when Lenny Webster hit a two-out, two-run homer in the 10th inning.
Cal Ripken singled just before Webster, hitting only .179, homered into the right-field stands against Mark Wohlers (2-2). Randy Myers got his major league-leading 23rd save.

Jose Offerman went 4 for 4, reached base five times and drove in three of the first four runs and Kevin Appier finally won his 100th game with five innings of shutout pitching.
Appier (5-5) limited the Pirates to a pair of singles to win for the first time in eight starts and lower his ERA to 2.56.
