Berbick Arrested

Compiled From Wire Services

Former heavyweight champion Trevor Berbick was in jail in Syracuse, N.Y., two days after his trip to boxing’s hall of fame was cut short by his arrest on a probation violation.

Berbick, 44, of Miramar, Fla., is awaiting extradition to Florida. Berbick was wanted by Florida authorities for failure to make court-ordered payments for a probation violation relating to a 1992 grand theft auto conviction.

Ross Puritty pummeled Joe Hipp for nine rounds before knocking out his opponent at 1:43 of the 10th round in the Biloxi Grand Theater Sunday in Biloxi, Miss.

Puritty (22-10-1 with 20 knockouts) began to take charge of the fight with some strong counter-punching, which frustrated Hipp (38-5) and left him largely in a perpetual daze.
