Going Away? What Book Would You Take?

Jeff Guinn Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Respondents in Publishers Weekly’s survey of American readers were asked to list the single book they would take with them for a lengthy stay on a remote island.

Seventeen percent selected the Bible, a 400 percent margin over John Grisham’s second-place “The Runaway Jury.” In the category of inspirational or self-help books readers’ top three choices were Sarah Breathnach’s “Simple Abundance,” followed by John Gray’s “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus” and “Chicken Soup for the Soul” by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen.

Those who would like more complete breakdowns can order copies of the survey by calling The Book Industry Study Group at (212) 929-1393.
