Griffey’s Injury Uncertain
Ken Griffey Jr. left Wednesday night’s game against the Oakland Athletics with tightness in his right hamstring after hitting a run-scoring double in the first inning.
His condition will be reevaluated by the Seattle Mariners’ team doctors today.
Griffey leads the majors with 29 home runs and the American League with 64 runs and 79 RBI.
With one out in the first inning, Griffey doubled to left center. When time was called, he walked into the clubhouse under his own power.
Currently the leading vote-getter for this year’s All-Star Game, Griffey has missed each of the last two All-Star Games with injuries.
He fractured his left wrist crashing into the center-field wall on May 26, 1995, and missed 73 games. He broke a small bone in his right wrist while batting on June 19, 1996, and missed 20 games.
