Stingy Maddux Bests Phils Again

Greg Maddux pitched a six-hitter, throwing just 18 balls in 89 pitches, to lead the Atlanta Braves over the Philadelphia Phillies 7-1 Friday night in Atlanta.

Maddux (10-3 and 21-10 lifetime against the Phillies) struck out eight and walked none in sending the Phillies to their 12th loss in 13 games.

Sanders’ misplay cost only his dignity as the batter was retired after the misjudged foul fly. … St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Brian Jordan went back on the 15-day disabled list with a sore back, which has limited him to 37 games this season. The Cardinals recalled outfielder Micah Franklin from Triple-A Louisville to take his place… .
