Nic Prepares All-Class Reunion

Jack Lemley, North Idaho College Class of ‘56 and builder of the Chunnel, which joins Great Britain and France, will be keynote speaker at NIC’s first all-college reunion.

The public is invited to Lemley’s talk, which is one part of an ambitious schedule of events on July 26.

“The plan for this is a very enriched, exciting day,” alumni director Dawn Atwater said Thursday.

Among other activities planned:

A fashion show, complete with skits, highlighting the six decades of NIC history.

A campus tour featuring local experts. Among them will be retired anthropology professor Duke Snyder, who will talk about the history of the area and archaeological finds at the site; Tensed Mayor Marianne Hurley, who will discuss Native American perspective on the location; local historian Robert Singletary; former trustee and instructor Betty McLain.

Author Louise Shadduck will talk about “The Nature of the Idaho Character.”

A sirloin steak barbecue dinner, served on the campus beach.

An evening cruise, featuring Dexter Yates’ band, The Fabulous Shadows.

Lemley will speak at 11:30 a.m. at Emery’s Restaurant in the Hedlund Building. He is chairman of the Boise-based American Ecology Corp., and has 35 years of experience building huge international projects, ranging from a coal mine and railroad in Colombia to a water tunnel in New York City.

He was chief executive for the five British and French companies that built the Channel Tunnel Rail Transportation Project, better known as the Chunnel.

Cost of the all-reunion events is $29, or $27 for those who have paid their alumni dues. Events also can be paid for separately: $7 for the lunch, $10 for the barbecue and $12 for the cruise.
