Gheorghe Muresan’s Future Is Crystal Clear Bullets Center Set To Make Film Debut

Washington Post

The big guy’s coming to the big screen. And the thought of Gheorghe Muresan pursuing his acting career has his Washington Bullets teammates thrilled - once they stop laughing at the concept.

Muresan is set to co-star with Billy Crystal in “My Giant,” which will begin filming in June. Crystal came to the Bullets’ game against the Golden State Warriors at USAir Arena on Saturday night to give Muresan an update. Crystal also spread the word around the Bullets’ locker room.

“If he can get a role that suits his personality, I think it’ll be good for him,” forward Tracy Murray said. “He’s a character. He has a great personality. If they bring that out of him on camera, then they’ve got a superstar on their hands.”

Crystal has been a fan of the 7-foot-7 Muresan ever since he was drafted by the Bullets and said one of the only English sentences he knew at the time: “I love this game!”

Muresan and Crystal had lunch in Los Angeles during the team’s West Coast trip in December 1995 and that’s when they first talked about the movie, which is about the friendship that forms after a tall man saves Crystal’s life.

“He thought it was a basketball movie,” Crystal said. “It had nothing to do with that at all. He is a very honest, sweet, funny, charming, unusually vulnerable, large man. He’s the perfect combination for this part. I just think he’s going to be astounding.”

“That is my hero,” forward Juwan Howard said. “That is my gentle giant. I will always support anything that he does.”
