Winds Increase Avalanche Risk
Snow conditions are unstable in the backcountry, according to the latest avalanche bulletin from the Panhandle National Forest.
Avalanche risk is rated as moderate to high because of snowstorms and winds during the week. A significant amount of wind has loaded snow on north- and east-facing slopes.
Bob Kasun, forest hydrologic technician, said natural avalanches are possible on steep terrain and human-triggered avalanches are more likely, especially on steep slopes.
