Style Show Will Benefit Poor Clares

Maisy Fernandez Correspondent

The Poor Clare Tea and Style Show, a fund-raiser for the Poor Clare Nuns of Spokane, is set for 1 p.m. March 16 in the downtown Red Lion Hotel’s grand ballroom.

“Leprechauns and Lace” will feature home-designed and sewn spring fashions, accessories and more. The Pages of Harmony barbershop chorus will perform traditional American songs and Irish ballads.

Items ranging from Easter goods to baked treats will be sold.

All proceeds will benefit the Poor Clare Monastery, home to the Poor Clare nuns. The group of Catholic women is a branch of the Franciscan Order, known as the Order of St. Clare.

The yearly event is their only fund-raiser.

Money will be used for general expenses and to aid with a building fund begun several years ago for a new wing. That addition is finished, paid for mostly by past shows, but outstanding bills still exist, said Claudia Hall, publicity chair for the show.

The nuns devote their lives to praying for others, and providing counseling and encouragement to those in need.

Tickets are $25 for patrons, $5 for general admission and $3 for senior citizens. Seating is limited.

For more information or tickets, call Hall at 448-9740 or Janet Plett at 324-0806.
