Freight Train Hits Van, Killing 5

Compiled From Wire Services

A freight train collided with a van at a railroad crossing on Sunday, killing all five people inside the van.

The van was hit by the southbound train on the CSX track Sunday afternoon in Orange Township, about three miles south of this city, Shelby County Sheriff’s officials said. It was not immediately clear whether the crossing had gates or warning lights.

All five people were pronounced dead at the scene; two were ejected from the van.

Sidney is about 35 miles north of Dayton.
