Fox Pulls Bosworth From Lineup

John Carmody The Washington Post

“Lawless,” the new action/adventure series starring former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Brian Bosworth, has been canceled after only one episode.

The “early-evening action series with humor,” filmed in South Miami Beach, attracted only a 4.9 overnight rating and 9 percent audience share in its debut last Saturday at 9 p.m.

“‘Lawless’ did not meet our expectations creatively or from a ratings perspective,” Fox Entertainment Group President Peter Roth said in a brief statement.

Only last January, Roth was saying Bosworth “has real television breakout potential and the makings of a terrific action hero.”

And: “We’re excited about the potential of “Lawless’ because frankly, there is nothing else like it on the air at this time.

It’s not unusual for a short-run series to meet a sudden end during the tryout period between the February and May sweeps. Last week, NBC pulled “Prince Street” after just two outings.

Fox said that with the “Lawless” cancellation, “America’s Most Wanted: America Fights Back” will return starting this Saturday to its hour format and a 9 p.m. start, following episodes of “Cops.”
