U.S. Hockey Team Tops Italy

Marty McInnis and Paul Ranheim scored in the final period to lead the United States to a 4-2 victory over Italy and a probable berth in the medal round of the World Hockey Championships.

McInnis, a right wing with the Calgary Flames, scored 10:09 into the final period and Ranheim, of the Hartford Whalers, got the insurance goal with 26 seconds remaining in the game.

The victory improved the United States to 3-0. Italy fell to 1-2.

Canada needed goals from Mark Recchi of the Montreal Canadians and Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames in the third period to salvage a 3-3 tie with Latvia.
