Texas-El Paso Punished

Compiled From Wire Services

Texas-El Paso’s troubled athletics department was back on probation - this time for five years - after the NCAA found several violations that one official characterized as relatively minor but rampant.

David Swank, chairman of the NCAA Committee on Infractions, said the violations concerned grade-average calculations, athletes’ free use of departmental copying machines, overall institutional compliance and other problems.
