Filippini Pulls Off Another Upset
Marcelo Filippini, pulling off another upset at the AT&T Challenge tennis tournament, used a streak of 12 straight points in the third set for a semifinal victory over eighth-seeded Chris Woodruff, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Duluth, Ga.
In today’s final, Filippini plays Jason Stoltenberg, who defeated Magnus Norman, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
At Munich, Germany, Australia’s hard-serving Mark Phillippoussis beat defending champion Slava Dosedel of the Czech Republic 7-5, 7-5 to reach the BMW Open final after staving off three set points.
Phillippoussis will face Spain’s Alex Corretja, who defeated Marc Rosset of Switzerland 6-3, 6-1.
