Yolanda Griffith, a 6-foot-4 center, who played professionally in Germany since 1993, was the first pick in the American Basketball League draft by the expansion Long Beach franchise.

Griffith, out of Florida Atlantic, was the top scorer and rebounder in the European League this year, averaging 24.7 points and 16 rebounds per game.

The Portland Power, with the second overall pick, took DeLisha Milton, the Southeastern Conference’s player of the year at Florida.

Milton averaged 18.6 points and 8.9 rebounds last season and is Florida’s career leader in steals with 281.

The New England Blizzard already had designated Connecticut star Kara Wolters as a regional player for its third overall pick. The Seattle Reign had earlier signed Stanford’s Kate Starbird as its first-round selection.
