High school baseball
The hottest team from the first half of the Frontier League season will try to cool down the hottest team from the second half.
West Valley won its eighth consecutive game Saturday, eliminating Colville 10-6 at the District 7-AA tournament at Cheney.
The Eagles (13-7), who opened the season 2-5, will play Cheney (12-4) for the district title at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Cheney. Cheney opened the league season 10-0.
Tuesday’s game will determine Saturday’s seeding to the Region IV-AA tournament at Seafirst Stadium.
The Frontier will challenge the Mid-Valley’s top two for one state berth. Selah is No. 1, and Othello and Eastmont are playing Tuesday for the No. 2.

Jason Phillipe won his fourth straight and Beau Macarty had four runs batted in, including a three-run homer in the sixth, to oust the Indians (11-10).
The Eagles’ Brian Lawler tied the game at 3 with a two-run homer in the third. Phillipe, who struck out five, guided a three-run fifth with a two-run single.
Colville’s Jared Bateman had a two-run double in the second.
Cheney is 2-1 against WV this season, but WV won the latest meeting.

Lakeside wins first title
George Petticrew (7-0) and Chris Granlund combined on a five-hitter as host Lakeside defeated Chewelah 18-0 in the title game at Nine Mile Falls.
Brian Coe went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and three runs for the Eagles (14-1), who won their first district crown.
Ryan Day added four RBIs, Jason Christen went 3 for 4, and Ian Ashley homered and doubled.
Lakeside opens regionals Saturday in Moses Lake against Yakima Valley No. 2 Connell.
Chewelah, the No. 2 seed, opens regionals Saturday at Yakima Valley Community College against Kiona-Benton.
Chewelah (11-5) opened the day with a 9-7 loser-out victory over Kettle Falls (8-9). Steve Wissink hit a grand slam in the second for Chewelah, then KF’s Chris Gagnon tied the score at 7 with a two-run homer in the fifth and a three-run double in the sixth.
Marcus Wright and Chris Eggleston had the deciding RBIs in the sixth.
District 9-B tournament
State champ DeSales cruises
Joe Levens struck out 10 as defending State B champion DeSales defeated Garfield-Palouse 15-3 in the championship game at Pullman’s Bailey Field.
Jeremy Litwall, 3 for 3, led the Irish’s 14-hit attack. Zach Johnson of the Vikings had a two-run single during a three-run sixth.
DeSales advances to the Region IV-B tournament in Walla Walla on Saturday. Gar-Pal will play at the Region III-B tournament at Spokane Falls Community College.
Touchet was the other team to move on, after defeating Tekoa-Oakesdale 12-3. The Indians play at the Region II-B tournament in Winlock. The other regional site is Arlington.
Touchet’s Beau Gosney struck out five and went 3 for 5. John Wall and Josh Brown were 2 for 3 for the Nighthawks.
In earlier loser-out games, Touchet beat LaCrosse-Washtucna 7-5 and T-O topped Waitsburg 12-2.
Jake Bussell went 3 for 4 and Neal Renwick 2 for 3 for Touchet. L-W’s Derrick Henley finished 3 for 4.
Bill Graffis and John Wall combined on a six-hitter, striking out 11, in T-O’s win. Graffis cleared the bases with a second-inning double.
