Grammys Will Now Include Dance
The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences trustees created Grammy Award categories for dance, remixer and Latin rock/alternative music during its annual meeting.
The best dance recording will recognize singles or tracks that are specifically targeted to the dance market. Both the artist and the producer/mixer will be eligible to receive awards.
The remixer of the year award will go to individuals who take previously recorded material and add to or alter it to create a new and unique performance. The award will be presented for a body of work throughout the year rather than a single recording.
The award in the new Latin rock/ alternative album category will recognize works by a single artist or group and not compilations.
The NARAS trustees also voted to change the album of the year to include all artists and producers on a various artist or soundtrack album to receive Grammy Awards. Previously only artists and producers whose work comprised 51 percent or more of an album received awards. And, under a change in the best instrumental soloist(s) performance (with orchestra) category of the classical field, conductors as well as artists will now receive awards.
