Ed Dempsey has been fired as head coach of the Kamloops Blazers, the Western Hockey League team announced.

Dempsey had a two-year record of 76-59-9 behind the bench and the Blazers finished fifth in the league standings this past season.

General manager Stu MacGregor said the team needed a more disciplined person behind the bench.

Dempsey worked as an assistant coach with the team for eight years before replacing Don Hay as head coach.
