Voters Can Stadiums
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates kept hearing about a Plan B to fund their proposed new stadiums if a sales tax increase failed.
The day after a ballot-box defeat far more resounding than either ballclub is accustomed to sustaining on the playing field, the teams were as anxious as anyone to see this backup arrangement.
“I’m going to turn this over to the elected officials, let them try to figure out a solution,” said Pirates managing general partner Kevin McClatchy. “We tried. But you don’t work on this for 18 months and then whip out Plan B a day later. It’s not that simple.”
