Carter Defends Ryan

Compiled From Wire Services

Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter has revealed why the Philadelphia Eagles put him on waivers after a stellar season in 1989: He was abusing drugs and alcohol.

Carter told ESPN that his behavior was the reason Buddy Ryan, then the Eagles coach, gave up on him. He said the media was wrong to blame Ryan for his move to Minnesota.

Arizona Pro Bowl defensive tackle Eric Swann will miss today’s game at Dallas because of a sore right hamstring, breaking a string of 25 straight games played.
